3rd to 5th Grades
Programs at Peoria Hebrew Day School for 3rd - 5th Grades
Secular Studies - 3rd through 5th grades are an exciting time of development for our students. We exceed any academic requirements that public schools offer children in the State of Illinois. Our individualized curiculum is taught by certified teachers and includes all secular subjects such as Social Studies, Reading, English, Math, Science, Art, Music and Computer Skills. Students are encouraged to excel in a loving and nurturing environment that does not tolerate any agressive behavior on the part of any student to another.
Jewish Studies
Our boys and girls in grades 3-8 help lead morning services with the help of long-time Jewish/Hebrew teacher, Dr. Tom Halperin. They learn Hebrew, Jewish and Israeli studies for two periods with Dr. Halperin, local rabbi's and our JPF Schliach (visiting ambassador from Israel) and are exposed to topics of Jewish religion, Israeli history, culture and language, and lessons in Jewish ethics, moral character and scholarship.
Holiday Activities
We love holidays at PHDS! Our activities include Shofar Blowing Contest, Sukkah decoration, Chanukah, program, Tu B’Shevat and Passover Seders, Purim Carnival, Megillah reading. Special observances are held for the Holocaust and Kristallnacht. We celebrate Israeli Independance Day with dancing and activities. These occasions are woven into the curiculum and families along with community members are invited to participate.
