Programs at Peoria Hebrew Day School for 3rd - 5th Grades
3rd Grade News:
Thank you to Dr. Lunken for a great computer class on Monday. The students are really making progress on their computer skills.
Tuesday the class attended a Planetarium program on telling time by the Big Dipper. Thank you Mrs. Andrade for driving.
On Wednesday we enjoyed a great afternoon of physical activity at River City’s Fun-N-Fit . Thank you to our drivers Mr. Lunken and Mrs. Andrade.
Thank you to Mr. Michael for reading to our class on Thursday. We appreciate him taking time out of his busy schedule. The students did activities related to the census this week in our Social Studies class. We are working very hard on the multiplication and division tables in Math.
When the students return from break, we will be reading the classic, Charlotte’s Web.
We are glad to welcome Elana Dermer to our class. She is an intern from Bradley who will be with us for the next few weeks observing and assisting students.

PHDS children in grades 3-8: (boys and girls in equal roles)
- Lead morning services with the help of long-time Jewish/Hebrew teacher, Dr. Tom Halperin and Leon Gordon as part-time teacher
- Learn Hebrew, Jewish and Israeli studies for two periods with Dr. Halperin, and JPF Schliach, Lior
- Are exposed to topics of Jewish religion, Israeli history, culture and language, and lessons in Jewish ethics, moral character and scholarship.
PHDS Jewish activities
- Include Shofar Blowing Contest, Sukkah decoration, Chanukah, program, Tu B’Shevat and Passover Seders, Purim Carnival, Megillah reading, Holocaust and Kristallnacht lessons and observances and celebration of Israeli Independence Day.
- Are central to the PHDS Jewish curriculum with PHDS families and community members invited.
- Include all of our students participating the in the PHDS Israeli Dance Troupe led by Joan Halperin
